The Medical University of Graz is a young university with a long-standing tradition: As early as 1863 the Faculty of Medicine focused on medical research and the education of new physicians. In January 2004, the former Faculty of Medicine was replaced by an autonomous Medical University. The clinical campus is based at the University Hospital in Graz.
The city of Graz is located in the south-east of Austria and is the capital of the federal state of Styria. With 300,000 inhabitants it is the second-largest city in Austria. The city combines history, tradition and urban lifestyle. The old city center was added to the UNESCO list of World Culture Heritage Sites in 1999. 2003 Graz held the title “Culture Capital of Europe” and since 2011 it is one of the UNESCO “Cities of Design”. The clock tower - the city’s emblem, which is incorporated in the logo of this meeting - is located on the “Schlossberg”, a hill in the city center which offers an impressive view of Graz and the surrounding area. Since the meeting is in early March 2012, winter sports opportunities available within two hours driving distance from Graz include downhill and cross country skiing as well as ice skating etc.
